PRANCHAL JAIN

Sketch Artist | Doodler | Illustrator | Digital Artist | Freelance Designer

I am a professional UX/UI and a Freelance Graphic Designer/Illustrator. From Childhood, "Art is my Hobby" and lots of time I spent doing experiments on it. I love to do pencil Sketching & take orders for Portraits. As a Freelancer, I used to design Logos, Brochures/Flyer, and Business Card, help people to brand their business, illustrations, etc.

I started freelancing in 2019 when I was working in one of the MNC. For me, it became complex doing coding for over 1 yr, So I just started doing sketching again whenever I get free time to refresh my mood and then created my Instagram art account as @Pranch_Arts, and one day I got a small order for sketching. It was a turning point in my life. I started thinking about why shouldn't I start freelancing? Why do I need to depend on a 9-5 job, when I can do something of my own?

I would like to thank my friends and family members who motivated me a lot in my journey.

So moving ahead, the question arises "Why I choose designing or to start freelancing over an IT company when I don't have any design Degree?"

The answer to this question is very simple-"I love to do creative works and never get bored of it." I used to try lots of experiments which make me enjoy it.

I want to give some key points/tips for Sketching:

Before you start sketching, the very first thing you should know - "what Sketching is?"

If you search in Google you will find so many definitions or explanations. But for me "Sketching is an ART, it's a meditation, it's a mood refreshment". You can express your feelings through it.

Let me tell you what are the BENEFITS OF SKETCHING?

Sketching is an exercise for the hand, mind, and eyes, and the activity provides benefits that can be applied to many aspects of life, from work to relationships. Understand how you can utilize the healing capabilities and cognitive benefits of drawing, which are outlined below:

  1. Boost Creativity: It helps you to improve your creative skills and start thinking differently. It helps in personality development and problem-solving skills.

  2. Strengthens Focus and Strategic Thinking: It also develops hand-eye coordination which helps to increase concentration power.

  3. Develops Communication Skills: Sketching can also help you improve your communication skills. Because there are no words in a drawing, well, most of the time, the artist finds other ways to communicate with the audience through pictorial representations, and this affords us better decision-making skills. It also provides the ability to better understand feelings and emotions without focusing on the meaning of the specific text.

  4. Improves Holistic Health: It helps in relaxation and stress relief.

  5. Increases Confidence: Regular sketching and being able to express and communicate better helps build up your confidence.

TIPS FOR BETTER SKETCHING PRACTICES:

I am sharing with you some tips which I follow for Sketching.

  1. If you are a beginner, start with basic shapes such as as-line, circle, square, rectangle, curved line, etc. Practice them regularly. It's actually a doing warm-up before you start drawing/sketching.

  2. In my free time, I used to do doodle. You can also practice basic shapes by doodling. Take any one shape either it will be a line, circle, square, etc, it's up to you. Repeat that shape in any form and you will get the final doodle. Below are some examples of my doodle:

3. Once you become better in basic shapes try to apply some shading, make sure you focus on the shadow and light. It's the most important thing in a sketch.

4. Avoid Smudging.

5. Use a blending Stick for smooth shading.

6. Differentiate different textures, like which part of the object is light or which is dark. It should be clear.

7. Practice daily for at least 30 mins. I am sure if you compare yourself in 1 month, you will find something different in your sketch. You will definitely improve your drawing skills by practicing daily.

Below are some examples of my Portrait Sketches:

Sketching is great for several different reasons and they don't just apply to pencil and paper sketching. All of these advantages simply come from the act of drawing and taking time to sketch something that you want to, however you want to do that.

The lifestyle benefits of this hobby are incredible and can really help improve your skills in a number of different areas of life, not just sketching.

Sketching is not just limited to designers, it occurs in many careers that require something to get built. The beauty of sketching is that you are not required to be an artist to produce them. Sketching is only to help explore and explain design concepts.

Unless you wish to be an artist, your drawings do not need to be beautiful: they need to be able to convey your point.

Always remember "Being Creative is not a hobby, it's a way of life."
